NEWS FOR 2007

The year has flown by and I haven't even had a chance to update my news page!  I have been busy painting this year. I have joined the ranks of 'Daily Painters' and have done a small painting just about every day.  My work can be seen online on the Daily Painters Gallery www.dailypainters.com   July 2007 marked the two year anniversary of my Daily Painting blog Painting my World.  You can always see what I am up to by checking out my blog. www.kemstudios.blogspot.com I recently started a new blog devoted to my pet paintings www.karenspetportraits.blogspot.com     I am starting to accept commissions and have several on my waiting list already!

I have continued my studies with Marsha Savage and love learning more about pastels as well as the comaraderie of my classmates. I was able to take one workshop this year with Master pastelist Margaret Dyer. It was a great experience!

And finally, not only did I have two paintings accepted into the Southeastern Pastel Societies annual Juried exhibition, my painting 'Late Afternoon Clouds' won an honorable mention! I was so pleased!

I am pleased to announce that my painting 'Sunny Days' has been accepted into the Atlanta Artists Center's Juried Show 'Synchronicity'. The Show will be at the Artist Center Gallery during the month of November 2006. I am excited to have be in the company of such wonderful artists!

My painting 'Bahama Treasure' has been accepted into the Southeastern Pastel Society's Twelth International Juried Exhibition 2006.  The opening reception is on August 24th from 5:30 to 7:00 at the Quinlan Visual Arts Center in Gainesville, Georgia.  If you are in the area, stop in to see the show. It runs through October 2, 2006.

I am pleased to announce that I am now represented by David's Fine Art for the Mountain Community, a gallery located in Murphy North Carolina.  I will have some of my work displayed as part of a new exhibit celebrating the Summer Solstice. If you are evr in town, stop by and visit. It's a wonderful gallery. For more information on the gallery check out the website .   www.davidsfineart.net

I  have been busy this Spring.  In April I attended a three day workshop with Terry Ludwig, a wonderful artist and maker of the best pastels!  The workshop was held in Blue Ridge Georgia. I had a wonderful time with my painting buddies, Jayne, Sherry and Holly. We rented a cabin on the Toccoa River. It had a wonderful view and a hot tub!  We had good weather until the last day when we had to paint inside. Terry was very generous with his time and knowledge. I know I have been using many of his ideas in my work...such as deciding on a focal point and making small thumbnail sketches before starting to paint.  He was a lot of fun and I highly recommend his workshops if you ever have the opportunity to attend one.

GO PAINT!  I was invited to join a new plein air painting group. We are the GEORGIA OUTDOOR PAINTERS ...Go Paint!  We had our first paint out this Spring at marsha Savage's cabin in Blue Ridge, Georgia. It was a wonderful expreience for me and I can't wait until the next get-together. There were 8 of us and by the end of two days we had painted over 40 paintings! It was amazing to see them all lined up in the drive way. Such talent in our group! Here is a photo of all the painting spread out in the drive way. I wish I had a group shot of us. I will try to get one at our next meeting.

The ALBERT HANDELL WORKSHOP

I had the opportunity to attend a 5 day workshop with Albert Handell and his wife Anita Louise West.  It was held in Dawsonville, Georgia. I decided to stay over rather than commute so it was like a mini vaction for me.  It was a great experience to watch a master paint. I took pages of notes and many pictures. Albert told me my strength was in painting the intimate landscape scenes such as trees. I still will paint birds and shells though!  Here is a photo of Albert critiquing my painting at the end of the first day.
